5.56/223 Once Fired Brass Unprocessed - 1,000 Pieces

This is once fired military brass that's unprocessed but in excellent condition! It consists predominantly of Lake City, but will also contain other government contract brass. Debris has been removed from the cases, but no processing or cleaning has been done. The military crimp will need to be removed when processing. Extra brass is included to cover any damaged pieces that we may have missed.

NOTE: No longer ships in a wood box due to cost and availability.

Good service

I just purchased this item and found a company to deliver very good service. It came packed in a nice wooden box. I was impressed with construction and printing on the box. This impressed me that if they do that much detail to a wooden shipment box they must care about their service. The brass was just as good. My shipment came in a very short time after I ordered it.. I recommend and will be fine reloading brass of them again. DG

Price/Quality/Cust Service PERFECT

Everything about Roberts and sons brass is just great (especially in today’s covid environment). Very fast shipping and awesome products. I purchased 1k unprocessed 223/556 brass. Received about 1030. Only had a few unusable cartridges. Since I was removing the military crimps anyway (thus removing any debris in the primer pockets) I tumbled them before I removed the primers to avoid cleaning media from the primer pocket holes. The brass shines up beautifully.

Great stuff

Just as described. No rocks or pebbles in the the brass. Checked the entire box and found only one piece I personally wouldn't reload. The rest are in great shape.

Q: How dirty are the unprocessed cases? I bought some from another place that were covered in mud and had a bunch of grass and rocks in with them.

A: Some military bases take better care of their once fired brass than others - we try to get a good head start by buying brass from these bases. Before we sell any of it we run it through our initial prep which consists of screening rocks and other debris, and removing grass and weeds. While we don't get 100% it does help. The reason we do this is we have been on the receiving end of brass that we weren't happy with; that's one reason we started Roberts and Son Brass. If we wouldn't be happy to buy the brass ourselves, then we won't sell it to you.

Q: What do you mean primarily Lake City Do not want 50-50 mix Would like all lake city if possible?

A: While we cannot promise a percentage of LC brass but here is how we determine how to list it. We take random samples during processing and check the head stamp. We then post what we have at that time. If the listing says primarily LC you would not get a 50/50 mix. If the samples show a mix of 75% LC and 25% something else we would list it that way.

Primarily LC means we are seeing almost all LC cases in our checks. There will be some other cases mixed in from time to time but it is usually pretty consistent.

One thing I can promise is they will all be ONCE FIRED and from military bases. Absolutely no range pickup junk.

223 Brass For Sale

Roberts and Son Brass offers unprocessed once fired 223 brass for sale. Our military 223 brass is dimensionally no different than commercial Remington 223 brass, it just meets the standard for military brass versus the commercial standard and has been fired once by one of the U.S. military branches. One benefit to military brass is that it's much harder on the Rockwell scale than comparable 223 commercial brass. Independent studies have shown military cases such as Lake City 5.56 to be almost twice as hard on the Rockwell scale as compared to 223 Remington cases. The only brass manufacturers of 223 that come close in hardness testing are Lapua and Norma. However, Lapua 223 brass and Norma 223 brass are still not on the same level as the military brass that we process and sell to our customers. The benefit to reloading 223 brass with a harder brass content is that the reloader will see much longer case life than by using inferior brass of a lower hardness.

Because we buy our 223 brass bulk from the military, we can guarantee that it's once fired 223 brass. Range pickup 223 brass technically shouldn't be called once fired brass, as it's unknown in many cases how many times it's been fired.

5.56 Brass For Sale

We would like to clarify that 223 brass and 5.56 NATO brass are the same dimensionally. What's the difference between 5.56 and 223? The 5.56 brass designation is from the military and the 223 brass designation is a commercial designation. That's not to say that a 5.56 and a 223 chamber in a rifle are the same; the difference in the two is the dimension of the rifle chamber, not the brass dimension. Interestingly enough, most rifles these days, even from the large manufacturers, are chambered for 223 Wylde. The 223 Wylde was developed to retain the tighter match 223 chamber, while still being able to handle the increased pressures from high velocity 5.56 NATO ammunition and cycle reliably.
